Tested in the igus test laboratory for use in the real world

Tested for continuous load, media resistance and quiet operation

In the industry's largest test laboratory for plastics, iglidur plain bearings are tested thoroughly and extensively. Focus of the tests are push/pull forces, coefficient of friction, wear as well as abrasion and driving forces at various speeds and bearing loads. The results are entered into our tools to calculate service life and allow for precise predictions regarding their durability.

Upon request, igus carries out customer tests to check product use under completely tailored conditions.

Do plastic bearings in bicycles have to be lubricated? What advantages do they have over their counterparts made of metal? In the igus blog, you can find interesting articles on everything to do with bicycle technology and equipment.

Sustainable bicycle components made of plastic

After the igus:bike was presented in 2022 - a bicycle that is made from a high proportion of recycled plastic - igus is continuing to push the production of plastic components. In 2023, in addition to a plastic handle bar, frames, wheels, cranks, pedals and other bicycle components made of high-performance plastic were also presented.
The focus is particularly on sustainable production. Bicycle components made of plastic require significantly less energy than their counterparts made of aluminium or carbon, and the CO2footprint is significantly smaller. Even after the end of the product life cycle, recycling is much easier than with competing materials.
Advantages of igus plastic components:
  • Energy-saving manufacturing process
  • 100% recyclable
  • Local supply chains
  • Resistant to dirt
  • Corrosion-resistant
  • Diverse design options
