Precise synchronous adjustment in test device for roller shutters

The test device is a horizontal double-axis structure into which the roller shutter is clamped. The two stop-dogs have to move synchronously at the top and bottom. The challenge was to achieve this without a direct mechanical coupling because the distance between the axes is variable.

In a first version of the test rig, the adjustment of the roller shutter brackets was realised with system carriages from an aluminium profile manufacturer. However, this system performed its task inadequately as the carriages were stiff and difficult to move. In addition, the brackets on the upper and lower beams had to be adjusted by hand.

The design engineers were therefore looking for a solution that warn more smoothly, was user-friendly and, if possible, reduced maintenance. As the system is used continuously in quality control, a robust design was also required.

Two drylin ZLW-1080 toothed belt axes with a robust, hard-anodised aluminium profile are now used. The linear axes operate smoothly and entirely without maintenance due to the integrated plastic bearings made from iglidur J. As the material contains solid lubricants, no external lubrication is necessary - this not only saves time and money for regular relubrication, but also eliminates the risk of the roller shutter becoming soiled by leaking lubricants.

The two stop-dogs are synchronised electronically with the help of an encoder and a motor. This allows the two linear axes to be moved in precise synchrony, even without a direct mechanical connection.

The result is a clean, durable, maintenance-free solution that improves usability and reduces workload.
